Question

Cisco 7911 hard reset

Asked by: ampranti

I was trying to upgrade my cisco 7911 from SCCP image to SIP.
Before I do anything i tried a hard reset (pressed # , and then continiously 12345678*0#)! Now the phone reboots continiously , asking for a callmanager to get the firmware; however, no callmanager exist!

Is any way to stop those reboots or "guide" the phone to get the IOS from a tftp server?

Thanks

HI,

Please run TFTP server on your PC, and set the phone to static address !

The button sequence you wrote in your original post is incorrect. It should be:

Step 1 Unplug the power cable from the phone and then plug it back in. The phone begins its power up cycle.

Step 2 While the phone is powering up, and before the Speaker button flashes on and off, press and hold #.

Continue to hold # until each line button flashes on and off in sequence in amber.

Step 3 Release # and press 123456789*0#.

You can press a key twice in a row, but if you press the keys out of sequence, the factory reset will not take place.

After you press these keys, the line buttons on the phone flash red and the phone goes through the factory reset process.

Do not power down the phone until it completes the factory reset process and the main screen appears.

Sorry - just re-read your post - though you'd got 0 & # wrong way round, but you've not - I assume missing the 9 was just a typo!

My problem ISNT that I cant do a hard reset!
I did sucesfullt a hard reset (the mistakes was justa typo!)
The problem is that after hard reset, 7911 requests call manager to get the new firmware that i dont have!!!
It loops continiously between the two screens that appear in "File1" and "File2" attached!

I cant configure static IP, because the phone doesnt get in the menu (where registraion occurs etc...)

Any idea how to make it boot ?

That looks like you need to be running linux to get this to work.

Hi there

Can you go to the configuration of the phone by pressing the serice button or it keeps rebooting all the time.

I had the same issue once i used your process to reset and the phone was looping all the time .

The results of this was to return the phone bak to cisco. However if you get to the phone configuration then try and reset the tftp server.

regards.

It keeps rebooting all the time, howver I believe that if i connect the phone to a lan with callmanager it will recover...

by: greekstonesPosted on 2009-11-01 at 10:17:47ID: 25714689

ah Ok

so you don't have call manager in place .You need call manager to do this other wise it will not work.   Add the phone to a small broadcast vlan to pickup the tftp image.

I had the exact issue once but i had call manager in place  and Cisco Tac had to replace the phone.

regards.

is any other way  to do it without callmanager?

by: greekstonesPosted on 2009-11-01 at 11:23:24ID: 25714992

Yes you can

you need to run tftp server on the laptop  then connect the phone and the laptop to unmanaged switch. Set up dhcp on you laptop with option 150 tftp server to go to your laptop.

regards.

by: deepdrawPosted on 2009-11-01 at 13:58:28ID: 25715766

When i did this on my 7960 from sip to cme i had to have this file on the tftp server.
OS79XX.TXT

Greg

by: deepdrawPosted on 2009-11-03 at 23:35:21ID: 25737169

inside the os79xx.txt is this
P0030702T023
which is the phone load file.
I think you need to have something like that on your tftp server so the phone loads the software.
