Question

How to configure a H323 gatekeeper on a Quintum Tenor DX?

Asked by: erik_nodland

Hi Everyone,

Can somebody please tell me how to configure a H323 gatekeeper on a Qunitum Tenor DX. I just need my H323 client to be able to register with the Quintum so that I can make calls in bound and outbound.

Thanks,

Erik

What series DX do you have plus are you using the Tenor Configuration Manager?

by: Joel_SiskoPosted on 2004-11-28 at 09:37:17ID: 12690731

Also what types of Client's are you using? More specific the better, type of enviroment, PBX type if avaliable? Internet connections, Firewalls, routers?

Also here are a few links if you do not have the Tenor Configuration Manager and the DX documentation. Not sure if you are a hard core cli tech, but the new GUI works really well.

Hi Joel,

It's the Tenor DX 2030 series. I can't find the necessary steps I need to perform in order to get a simple setup going. I am using Openphone (OpenH323 softphone) for testing. I have a single E1 connected to the PSTN. I only have one Tenor which is currently acting as the PSTN breakout fine and hopefully as the gatekeeper.
I have configured the Zone as "test-gk". I don't think it needs to be a border element as there is only one GK. I have checked the Primary GRQ box. What else will I need to do? I am fine using either the GUI or the CLI if you can give me an idea of the configuration steps?

Thanks,

Erik

Why do you need a gatekeeper when you are trying to setup a single gateway?

by: Joel_SiskoPosted on 2004-11-28 at 16:21:32ID: 12692372

rwotherspoon,

Quick answer to that is H.323 being used, but more so, the client is using an E1. I have to assume that its more than just him calling for personal use. So the need might not be necessary today, but if this is going to be for a business apillication or such, he might require later on ways to authenticate or do some form of billing, which a gateway does not lean itself to do very easily.

erik,

Sorry for the delay getting back, could you prinout the current configuration.

Let me clarify, could you print out your configuration and post it.

by: Joel_SiskoPosted on 2004-11-29 at 11:56:46ID: 12699608

erik,

Also are you set on using OpenH323 phone or are you pliable enough for me to recommend using http://www.sjlabs.com/sjp.html   softphone? I have used their phone before with the Quintum gateways.

Joel

by: erik_nodlandPosted on 2004-11-29 at 13:49:26ID: 12700628

Hi,

Just to clarify. I need a gateway for most of the reasons Joel has said above. A gateway and gatekeeper are different entities. As well as authentication for billing I also need to register the endpoints to enable two way calling which can only be accomplished dynamically using a Gatekeeper.
I am very happy to use sjlabs softphone to make sure everything works. The reason I said I was using Openphone is because I have developed a H323 softphone using the Openh323 stack and it was the closest thing to what I have developed that people might have heard of. :-)
BTW, I have obfuscated the first octet of the ip addresses for safety.

Here is the config as it stands now.

Hi Joel,

Good to hear you have everything back up.

I'm still stuck unfortunately. I would really appreciate any help you can give me in getting this thing configured as a gatekeeper.

Hope to hear from you soon,

Thanks for all your help so far,

Erik

Erik,

Sorry for the delay! Just looked at your config, one question? This is the only gatekeeper in your network correct? If this DX is the only Gatekeeer, then what you need to do first is delete the ip address of the primary gatekeper from the h.323 signaling group, leaving it null signifies that the DX will perform its owngatekeeper functions. Try this at the cli:

config-H323SignalingGroup-1# set gkipa 0.0.0.0

Set this and try to register a softphone with it.
