to cschuett, i don't think it's distance issue because I use Skype to chat with my friend oversea, it has no problem at all, but the case I mentioned in the question actually is just my friend in my country (Malaysia) but different state only.
to leew, perhaps I should ask my friend to give me the spec of his PC?
