The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

New VoIP, No Inbound Audio

Asked by AkuHST in Voice Over IP

Tags: nec, voip

Well I have been at this for a while, though I am no expert.

My company just brought in a person to make cold calls.  She will be working from home.  We are using an NEC phone system.

We are running 1 to 1 NAT from one of our public IP address 72.xxx.xxx.xxx to the Private address assigned to the VoIP Card in our phone system (192.168.1.x)

We are running a T-1 with a sonicwall TZ170 which preforms our firewall, routing, and NAT operations.

The phone (a Dterm IPK) is set in DHCP mode and is able to obtain an IP address with no issues, and when inside my network (ie MGC searching for the private address) everything works fine.  When I set the phone to MGC search for our Public address everything connects fine but the phone does not receive inbound audio.  In other words the person on the other end can hear me, but I can not hear them.  Also the phone will not give a dial tone. (Other than those small details everything works fine)

This leads me to believe that the problem is our firewall is blocking something important.  However even when I open every port to both TCP and UDP traffic the situation remains.

I currently we are not using our router's OPT capiability.

As I mentioned this problem seems to exist even when all ports on the firewall are open, but I will list the access rules I have created anyway, just in case.

*   192.168.1.x(*)  SIP (5060 UDP)
*   192.168.1.x(*)  NTP (123 UDP)
*   192.168.1.x(*)  TFTP (69 UDP)
*   192.168.1.x(*)  DNS (23 UDP)
*   192.168.1.x(*)  RTP (10000 to 20000 UDP)

I am running out of things to try, so I am hoping someone out there has had a similar problem....and knows a solution.

Thanks
