Question

QOS for VOIP on cisco 3560 switch

Asked by: Jean-Pier

We are starting a project of VOIP.
here is the setup:

computer is connected to the cisco phone that is connected to the cisco 3560 switch. then I have the port #1 (later it will be a gigabyte port) that goes to an other switch.

phone and computer are on 2 diferent vlan

now I need some QOS for VOIP.
I found this on the cisco web site. but is waaayyy to complicated for me...
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/switches/lan/catalyst3550/software/release/12.1_13_ea1/configuration/guide/swvoip.html

Im used to work with cisco switches. I configured myself the vlan trunking, but QOS... never did that...

so can somebody give me a sample of QOS with a cisco 3560 POE 24port or any link that will help me

thank you !

Try auto-qos. It's good for most of the tipical situations.
The auto qos voip interface configuration command enables Cisco AutoQoS VoIP on an interface or PVC (VoIP refers to all voice traffic with RTP carried over IP protocol that requires low delay, jitter, and packet loss). Cisco AutoQoS VoIP relies on interface bandwidth, not clockrate, to determine whether additional QoS features that pertain to low- or high-speed interfaces or PVCs should be configured or not configured.

how about "wrr-queue"?

Besides that "voice vlan" command doesn't make sense if you set "switchport mode access".

I set mode trunk and add "native vlan" for users without phones. So when you connect just a regular host which doesn't attach any vlan tags it will be placed into the "native" vlan

@tvman_od - your method works as well, no question there.  But the voice vlan does make sense on an access port.  From the research I had done prior to our telephony implementation, the voice vlan method was considered Cisco's best practice:

Couple reference links I came across:

rvthost, if you would read my post one more time, that's exactly what I'm talking about. In the sample of the config Fa0/1 turned into access mode, which may be confusing.

For ports where you expect IP phones and PCs you need to use "switchport mode dynamic" or "switchport mode trunk" with native vlan option.
