Conflict between Skype, VOIP321 and Sigmatel system tray

I have recently upgraded to an ECS motherboard (GF8200A) which happens to use IDT Sigmatel audio.

I also have a Philips VOIP321 Dualphone which hooks up to my computer and I use frequently to make Skypeout calls. Since I installed the new motherboard, the VOIP321 software hasn't been able to find the Skype application and until now I hadn't been able to figure out why. By a chance occurrence, I have now discovered that the IDT Sigmatel system tray app (sttray.exe) is stopping the VOIP321 software finding Skype. As soon as I kill sttray.exe, VOIP321 finds Skype and all is well.
I upgraded the sigmatel drivers to the latest available from the ECS website before I discovered this, so my audio drivers are up to date. The other weird thing is that whenever I  shut down my computer now, it never shuts down cleanly, as it's waiting for the IDT Sigmatel audio software which is Not Responding, and I always have to close it manually.

Any ideas on how to resolve this? I'm not sure if sttray.exe is supposed to have a system tray icon or not, as I've never seen it there.

Typing "Sigmatel conflicts with skype" into Google shows that you are definitely not alone. I guess the simplest solution would be to disable the onboard sound in bios and add a sound card.

Hmm I think easier than that is to disable sttray.exe from starting at startup. From what I can see, sound doesn't appear to be impacted when it's not running - at this point I'm not even sure of the purpose of this file.

If it's absence isn't an issue then that would be easier. It is probably here - HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
