Question

Change Cisco Call Manager Express from Analog FXO lines to Integrated T1

Asked by: jg22

We are purchasing a Voice and Data T1 with 9 trunk lines for voice.  We are currently running Cisco Call Manager Express on a Cisco 2811 router with 6 analog lines (FXO ports).  The main reason for changing our system is so that each person can have their own DID number.

I have no idea how to even start connecting this system together, including setting up my new DIDs to dial in directly to each phone.  We currently have all phones ring whenever any call comes in.  Any sample configurations will help me out alot!

as i can see you did not configure pri-group under the controller.
configure the pri group then you will have new voice-port you have to use it to send calls.
how many digits you provider is sending when you call DID numbers?
because we have to configure two dial peers one for incoming and one for outgoing as the following

dial-peer voice 1 pots
incoming called-number .
direct-inward-dial
port x/x/x:x

dial-peer voice 2 pots
destination-pattern 9T
port x/x/x:x

but you will not receive calls until you know how many digits you are receiving.

Best,
Hussam

From reading other posts on experts-exchange and other searching here what I think my configuration should be:
controller T1 0/2/1
 framing esf
 linecode b8zs
description WHAT DO I DO HERE
 pri-group 0 timeslots 1-9,24 (or is it 1-8,24 ; I have 9 trunk lines)
 channel-group 10 timeslots 10-23 speed 64

This is the information that I received from Cebyond regarding the PRI interface:
-1 Combo (2-way) Trunk Group
-NI-2, 5ESS, and DMS-100 Switch Types
-ESF framing; B8ZS coding
-Four Digits pulsed
-Glare and Clocking: Cbeyond network is Master
-Trunk Selection: Ascending on Inbound; Descending on Outbound

Is there any other way to know how many digits I'm receiving?

the configuration that you have is correct.
use it with the configuration that i post.
most probably you will receive 4 digits so you can use dial-plan pattern under telephony-service configuration or give me the number that you have (i.e. yyyy-xxxx) i want the number-last 4 digits to create translation rule for you.

Hussam

3270-3329 is the new block of numbers I'm receiving.

We are also porting over our previous phone #'s but I think I will just use the main number to dial our "receptionists" and not have to ring everyone like before.

Thanks for the help!

Also, will I need to configure a new serial interface?
interface Serial0/2/1:???

by: hus1984Posted on 2009-10-20 at 23:18:58ID: 25621137

we will remove first 4 digits from 3270-3329
use this configuration

voice translation-rule 1
rule 1 /3270/ //

voice translation-profile VGW-IN
translate called 1

dial-peer voice 1 pots
incoming called-number .
direct-inward-dial
port x/x/x:x
translation-profile incoming VGW-IN

dial-peer voice 2 pots
destination-pattern 9T
port x/x/x:x

using this configuration you will receive the calls to the extension that will match last 4 digits.
try it and update me please.

Best,
Hussam

I have managed to get this configuration working on inbound calls only.

A few changes to our system.  We did not remove our analog lines to avoid phone downtime.

I could not get outbound calls to go out over the PRI interface, they continue to go out through my FXO ports.

Cbeyond technician over the phone mentioned  that -" Trunk Selection: Ascending on Inbound; Descending on Outbound"

I have attached the config changes I have made to my system.

voice translation-rule 1
 rule 1 /3270/ /4001/
 rule 2 /3288/ /4002/

voice translation-profile VGW-IN
 translate called 1

dial-peer voice 99 pots
translation-profile incoming VGW-IN
preference 1
destination-pattern 9T
incoming called-number .
direct-inward-dial
port 0/2/1:23

dial-peer voice 1 pots
destination-pattern 9T
port 0/2/1:23

exactly you have to raise the preference of the FXO ports dial-peer in order to use the PRI one.
as you mentioned above use Preference 1 under all FXO dial-peers.

Hussam

Thanks for the help Hussam! When I pulled the FXO ports, the phone will dial out through the PRI. Now I just need to reorganize my config.
