The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Need Help setting up a USB ethernet adapter to a DSL modem

I currently turned a Gateway WindowsME nightmare into a "Frankinstein" Windows 98SE comp. The reason for this is because WindowsME sucks heh. So I downgraded to WIN98SE for now untill i can upgrade to WinXp.

Heres the problem:

I connect my SBC DSL modem to my computer through a USB D-Link Ethernet adapter 2.0. The modem is setup correctly with the telephone wire leading from the wall to the Modem, and the Ethernet cable connected to the adapter than to the modem. The two lights on the adapter are ilumination to show a connection and power. The modem has 5 possible lights that can be illuminated, Power, Ethernet, DSL, Internet, and Activity. When i turn on the power and let it sit for a few seconds; the Power, Ethernet, and DSL become illuminated. The Activity light will flicker here and there. The only light that doesnt illuminate is the Connection. I have tried CMD "Ping 192.168.0.1" and have recieved 4 of 4 packets. When i type in "ipconfig" this shows up...

Windows 98 IP Configuration

0 Ethernet Adapter :

IP Address. . . . . . . . :0.0.0.0
Subnet Mask. . . . . .  :0.0.0.0
Default Gateway. . . . :

1 Ethernet Adapter

IP Address. . . . . . . . :192.168.0.2
Subnet Mask. . . . . .  :255.255.255.0
Default Gateway. . . . :192.168.0.1

Now im unsure if having Two(2) adapters is complicating the connection or what; but i do know i have a connection because when i go into Internet Explorer and type in "192.168.0.1" I can get to the DSL providers server login.
