Thank you.
They'are all the same, aren't they?

Browse All TopicsHi,
I complained about the speed of my connection, and the isp sent me this, telling it is fine.
Since I don't trust them, can you tell me how it is, the connection is supposed to be a 1.2 Mb with a guaranteed 256 in download, and 128 in upload.
The following is a translation of the message, so some terms might have to be ... interpreted.
Not being sure about the ip addresses, and line number I put xs, and 1s

Thank you.

I'm gathering this is a high-speed cable modem service? Do you happen to know if you have a cable modem or DSL connection? Or is this a satellite connection?
Your ISP is simply informing you that you are getting at least the minimum connection speed and trickz 2 is right, they probably won't do anything.
I've had this problem with a couple of providers as a cable network verses a DSL account, everyone in the area is sharing the same cable connection to the gateway service. The more people who are online at the same time, the slower the connection speeds.
However, I did daily bandwidth tests and then took screen shots of the test and then sent to them a printout in regular mail proving what they advertised in connection speeds was not even close to what I was getting.
Finally a repair person came out and got up on the telephone pole and found a burnt out cable connector and that fixed the problem. Obviously, there can be all types of reasons for having a few bad connection days a year. But if your provider is saying that they offer a minimum connection and you're getting at least that, your complaints might fall on deaf ears.
Keep a daily record of your own bandwidth speed. You can use free online bandwidth tests such as these to test your connections and to get a working average:

They are indicating by the line "Current line speed 320 Kb/s 1504 Kb/s" that you are getting more than their guarenteed rate so they are not going to do anything. Their test is a snapshot in time and you will never get them to do anything unless you can prove you are not getting the guarenteed rate. Although many folks would argue the accuracy, i have used some of the basic internet speed test to document that i was not getting the guarenteed rate. Unless you can document and prove to the ISP, in my case it was Embarq, that you are not getting what you are paying for they usually will do nothing.
