How to monitor the load on a 100mbps leased line at work

Hi

I recently started working at the iNOC department. The main issue here was bandwidth monitoring. I recomended using bandwidth splitter through ISA to monitor & manage clients who are using the bandwidth.

But now they wanna know the current load at any given time on the 1000mbps leased line on the STM.

How do I go about it?

This is what we use to monitor interfaces as you describe. It is not expensive and there is a trial version.

Dont the ISP have monitering that you as a customer have access to? IE Viatel have scamp that you login and can see what happeninng on your line and generate reports. it would be worth asking the ISP

If the service provider can't offer anything like that, you may be able to query some of the SNMP MIBs from whatever equipment you are using or use a tool like Cacti http://www.cacti.net/ to provide some per-interface reports for realtime and historical usage.

I suggest Cacti or  MRTG, on a LINUX box should be able to do everything for you. .. check forum too forums.cacti.net  sample see http://forums.cacti.net/about30931.html
