Browse All TopicsCurrently we have a Internet/data T1 1.5mb from AT&T and want something faster. we use it for regular office use for about 60 users and to VPN to multiple branch locations. I have been quoted a AT&T Managed (EaPNT/EaMIS) Ethernet connection 10mb x 10mb. It is on Promotion for about $1,100/month for 2 years OR the same Rate for 3 years. I believe that this service is new to my area. It will be delivered to my location over copper lines. We are in a NON-Metro location in SoCal.
I am hoping for some help with deciding weather to go with a 2 or 3 year commitment. We plan to need an internet connection for both of these time ranges. There is no price break for the long commitment. Will this service be cheaper in 2 years? If anyone could give me their input I would appreciate it.

We always advise our clients on 2 yr commits due to the ever declining costs of bandwidth. The other point here is you may have the opportunity through a secondary provider that has fiber(on-net) to your premise or another ethernet over copper solution. This should be a consideration now as well, especially if you are at the end of your term with AT&T on your T-1. I know for a fact that you should be able to improve your costs by about $300 per month through others. I hope this helps.

Go two year. This type of circuit will be replaced by 10gig and eventually 40gig will be widely available. Bandwidth will get cheaper as newer technologies come available. At any rate, if your business grows (assuming that is still a good thing) then you get to the end of your 2 year and need a 20 meg circuit or 100 meg circuit.
