for example
" route add -net 192.168.0.0 netmask 255.255.255.0 dev eth0 "
comm: the word dev is option here

Hi Stany0,
I did the following command:

route add -host 10.x.x.x netmask 255.255.255.255 gw 192.x.x.x metric 1
and I got this message (usage: add destination [netmask mask] gateway [metric])

without netmask

route add  <ipaddress> -netmask <netmask_value> <gateway address> <metric_value>

to make it permanant enter these route details and place it as a script in
/etc/rc3.d

for eg. /etc/rc3.d/S76staticroute

Depending on the falvor of unix that script may need to go in /etc/rc2.d.  Also some of the newer unices no longer user the metric  entry for the route add.  In your example above you show a netmask of 255.255.255.255.  Would have to question that.

indeed. Consult the manual for your flavour of OS, each one is likely to have its own way. It would help if you posted more information.

what is your unix? There are loads of *nix's available, each has their own way of doing what you want (open systems huh!).

Knowing which one you have will help a great deal.
