The server is not configured for transactions
I have an NT4 Server Sp6 that I get an error when going into server manager while hooked on the network.
The server is not configured for transactions.
If I unplug it from the network it errors and says that it can't find the PDC, Technet says this about it below:
Error 2141
The server is not configured for transactions.
Explanation: The specified server is not configured to accept the command you typed.
Action: Ask your network administrator if the server is configured properly. The administrator may choose to share the server's IPC$ resource to correct this problem.
Is this all I need to watch out for tomorrow when I go in? Has anyone else had this happen?
Thanks,
eureeka

When typing this it says something to the fact that it was completed successfully. But still can't open srvmgr without getting the same error as before.
But when I type this command on the PDC(A different box,NT4 SP4),it errors. So I looked and there is no ipc$ resource share on this box. How could this be? What can I do?
Thnx

Thats the ticket Tim! Thanks O'le buddy. Now I just have to get the PDC and BDC to Trust eachother again, and everything will be cool. I can take care of that this weekend so I don't have to worry about booting people off the server when I have to reboot.
Take care,

The thing is - who turned IPC off in the first place !?

Thats something I'm definitly going to have to look into. The servers are in a remote office, and the admin there says he doesn't know anything about it, so, I just have to go from there. I didn't build the box personally though.
i am having a problem kinda like this

Hello
I am running a win2000 serveron my network nodes Pc's are working on Win98, all was fine, now when computers try to access the server they get the message 'the server is not configured for transactions' The internet is still shared from the server.
I Also used the command Net share Admin$ and Net Share IPC$... but these command works only for few seconds ... after that again same problem
Please Advice

Either the machine you're running srvmgr on or the destination is not sharing IPC.
Try :
net use \\servername\ipc$ /user:adminstrator password
