Need simple network speed test.

I need something that can check the transmission speeds of various computers on the LAN.  I basically want to know what rates Computers A thru Z are sending to and receiving from the "server" in various conditions (ie big files, small files, heavy traffic, no other machines, etc.)

I have a couple of machines that are consistently slow acessing data files, despite having "more capable" hardware.  Want to see where the trouble might be and also just curious in general.

Freebie or cheapo preferred  ...

I think he is looking for an internal speed tester for his LAN.

What model of switches and routers are you using? Sometimes these have builtin utilities or utilities that can be used with them.

the test from bandwidthplace.com can be used on a LAN... simply click on "Enter a Server" and go from there...  use it on my LAN all the time
