can't open FTP connections
hello,
i am on a computer inside of a basic broadband network running Windows XP Professional. all of a sudden, my computer won't open FTP connections. i have tried multiple FTP clients, and tried to connect to FTP servers on standard (21) and nonstandard (2100+) ports to no avail. i don't think it is an issue of the traffic being blocked by my router or my ISP because it doesn't even TRY to get out. one of the programs gives me an error about being unable to initialize the FTP proxy (Macromedia Homesite 5).
Does this error ring a bell with anyone? I am fairly adept at networking and computer troubleshooting in general, but this one has me stumped. Is this a virus or something?
thanks,
justin

try this:
On Internet Explorer
1. Click on Tools
2. Click on Internet Options
3. Click on Advanced
4. Under the browsing sub-section click on 'use passive FTP for firewall and DSL modem connectivity'
