The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

98 SE networking Notworking

Asked by Q98 in Windows 95 - 98 Networking

I have a 2 computer network (A,B) that was working fine when I had win98 on both, I got the $20. upgrade to SE and installed on both, after SE was installed it changed the the brand names and drivers for my NIC cards.
I downloaded the newest drivers for my NIC and installed into both, but it's still not working, they will not see the other computer.

I did the dos prompt - net diag, it did not work, and also the ping, and it did not work, it did work if I was on A and pinged A, but if I pinged B it timed out.

I don't think the NIC's are bad (but I don't know) on the back, they both have 2 lights, if I unplug the wire, 1 light goes out on each card, plug it back in and they both come back on.

My purpose for this network is for these 2 computers to share printer and to use SE's ICS, so how should I set it up?
What client, protocal, etc.?
How can I get this working right?
I've only did this once, but I think the way I have had it set up it should be working, I've tried differnt protacals,
IPX/ (without Netbeui) and checking the box for netbios, still no good.

On both now in network prop:
Client for MS networks
[prop]Loggon and restor connection

D-Link DE-528 Ethernet PCI adapter
[prop] Binded to Netbeui-> D-Link adapter
and TCP/IP-> D-Link

Dial up adapter
[prop]Binded to netbeui->dial up adapter and tcp/ip-> dialup adapter

Netbeui-> D-Link DE-528 Ethernet PCI adapter
[prop.] binded to client for ms network and file and printer sharing for ms network

Netbeui-> dial up adapter
[prop.] binded to client for ms network and file and printer sharing for ms network

TCP/IP-> D-Link DE-528 Ethernet PCI adapter
[prop.]binded to client for ms network, and file and printer sharing for ms network.
Specify IP- 192.168.10.1 & 2 [sub]255.255.255.0

Do I need to specify IP, or automatic?

and they both have the same workgroup name, and both have all drives shared [full no passwords]
