  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. network  and cable modem problems

Asked by panpete in Windows 95 - 98 Networking

I have a network with 3 computers. I had a cable connection installed yesterday and they screwed everything up by hooking the modem to my network card that was already in use. I was told by an expert that this was wrong and that I needed another network card. So I installed one and it shows up as working properly in device manager. Now if I hook the cable modem to the first card (the one the cable co. used) I can connect to the internet but none of my network shows up. If I hook the modem to the second card none of my network shows up and if I try to connect to the internet the computer reboots.
