Browse All TopicsI have an older net vista IBM Penyium 3 computer. I was doing a friend a favour and ran Avast anti virus to remove a virus from the computer. The files corrupted were system files and I removed them. Now the Computer will not load windows. It goes through the loading faze of windows and just before the desktop screen comes up it reboots the computer. The Fix for this is to repair the windows installation and repair the system files. I have had this virus in one of my computers and this fixed the issue. My main problem here is that I can not figure out how to change the boot sequence. I have tried everything including the removal of the cmos battery. I it takes me into what looks like the bios but doesnt give me an option to change the boot sequence. I noticed someone had figured it out but they never said how.

Holding a key down before power up might give you a keyboard failure. Power on the PC then as soon as you see the IBM logo - hit F1. This will get you into the BIOS. If you miss it due to the monitor not lighting up quick enough, you may have to go with trial and error and just hit the F1 key earlier and earlier until it says "Starting BIOS Utility" - from in the BIOS Utility you can change the Startup or Boot Sequence.
The F12 option is also a good one if the BIOS supports it. That will give you a menu of available boot drives and you can pick the CD or Floppy or HD or even USB device (but I doubt your PIII supports a USB boot device).

1) Shut down the operating system and turn off your computer.
2) Press and hold down the F1 key, and then turn on the computer.
3) When an IBM or other logo is displayed or if you hear repeating beeps, release the F1 key. The IBM BIOS Setup Utility will start.
4) Select "Start Options" from the first menu.
5) From the Start Options menu, press <Enter> on the top bullet labeled "Startup Sequence" (it is above all the other options). This brings up a new "Startup Sequence" menu.
6) Change boot order as needed using arrow keys.
