Question

Snetcfg.exe, where? Enable File and Printer sharing via Group Policy

Asked by: Ralieb

I've searched the net but cannot find this file, SNETCFG.EXE.
In order to remote install software, I need to have File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks enabled for over 200 XP Clients.
I found several answers here but all worked with this snetcfg.exe, but the links to download was dead.
Most links reffered to dead ends

Can someone tell me where to get SNETCFG.EXE or a method to mass enable file and printer sharing for XP clients?
thanks all

for remote installing software u don't have to enable file and printer sharing..

You should use a deployment tool like OCS Inventory Next Generation or use the SysInternals (nowadays Microsoft's) PSTools package with the 'psexec' tool from command line.

I have 2 products to install/deploy
Symantec Ghost Client and Symantec Endpoint Protection
Both can be "deployed" from the Server console. The thing is if F&P sharing is not checked in the NIC properties (not the firewall exceptions) then the Server cannot deploy to client. Simple test is to try to map \\client-IP\c$. If F&P sharing is disabled then no go.

With the snetcfg.exe and a kix script I can enable F&P on all clients in LAN. after I can deploy the Symantec products from console.

Haha thanks,

I searched Google for "index of / snetcfg.exe" (without the quotes).
It's an easy way to find so-called opendirs (open folders on webservers with files in them and no index document).

Good luck :)

(also: "filetype:exe snetcfg" works sometimes on Google, but not that well and not for exe's)
