A friend sent me via email a song in wpl format. When I try to play it on my Media Player 11 I get an error message that it cannot open file. I followed their help instructions but I still can't get it to play. How can I get the file to open?

Pretty sure that wpl files are actually Windows Playlist files not the actual song. Might be worth trying to get your friend to email to file again. Check the size of the file to confirm this.

I agree with TsTbB, get your frind to send the correct file....also if she has problems sending a song via email...tell her to put it in a zipped folder then send it. Some email services do not allow you to send music through your email...it has to do with copyrights. If it is in a .zip or .rar file type the email servers will not realixe it is a mp3. This is a very easy method to solve, don't worry. I'll guide you step by step to solve it.
1) Firstly, you need to know wpl is not a song, it this called windows media player's playlist
2) By following the way i show in attachment, you can locate the exact file with the name you wanted.
3) Browse through your files and folders, and copy the songs in your explorer.
4) Ask your friend to resend you the file, Done :)
For example, the song wpl is called church songs, right click on the songs inside the right panel and locate

It's just a list of songs, it's not an audio file.
You need both: wpl file, and the audio files(.mp3, .wav,. wma)
