1. Delete Temporary Internet Files
2. Reset IE Default Settings from Tools>Internet Options>Advanced tab
3. Tools>Manage Add-ons>Enable or Disable Add-ons and then disable all Non-Microsoft Add-ons, apply, close IE, open it again and now check the problem.

Hello TArms,

1. An addon may be interfering with IE.  In addition to what SheharyarrSaahil said, disable all addons.  Go to Tools > Add-on Manager, and uncheck the addons.

If you cannot open IE, start IE without addons.  Go to Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Internet Explorer (No add-ons).

2. Reset IE settings.  In addition to what SheharyaarSaahil said, go to Advanced tab.  Click on "Reset" button. Click OK. Close all browsers. Reboot the computer.

3. Check if a program running in the background is interfering with Internet Explorer. Temporarily disable antivirus and other security programs, firewall, toolbars such as Google and Yahoo, and desktop programs such as MSN and Google.

4. If using Windows XP, uninstall and reinstall IE7. Make sure you have the latest updates.

5. Create a new user account in Windows.

Hope this helps!

TArms--Just tossing out an idea.  Do you know where you are going when you click Back?  It may not be to the last page you visited.  It could be an advertising page tor a page that may contain malware.  (Pages like that can be loaded or blocked without your knowing it if you have certain security restrictions in place.  That is good.  The last page you saw may have redirected your browser--again without your knowing it.   But the redirected or blocked page will still be in Back's memory.)
Click on the Black down arrow to the right of Back.  See what page is at the top of the list.  If that is not the page you want, select the page you do want from the list.
There is very little you can do to stop Back from retaining the redirect information.

Could you uninstall your flash player by following the instructions at this link http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=tn_14157 (make sure you have every browser window closed when you run the file). Restart your computer and then reinstall flash player from this website http://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer/ by clicking the download now button and following the prompts.

Could these solutions also apply to IE "Lockups" regardless of clicking on the back button?  I seem to have an unusual high number of Lock Ups in IE Explorer.  I keep my PC Clean, run anti-spam/malware on a regular basis, keep the cache and temp directories clean as well.

Opinions?

All of these solutions, besides jcimarron's solution, are standard solutions to IE Lockups.
