After a short while of good internet access I start getting a "Time Out" when going to new pages. I am using a Dlink router but this computer is connected by an ethernet cable. Other computers on the wireless network access the internet fine.
turns out the problem was Zonealarm. I removed it in the config.sys file and apparently you have to have the program itself remove it or it blocks the internet after a short period.
