ive been trying to get an answer on here for a filtrensfer problem im having. i have a wireless netgeaar wgt624v3 router, 2 usb wg111v2 wireless adapters, fire wall is down, all settings are set ( as far as i know. I cannot transfer files from the vista box to the 2k box. could it it be a udp tcp or a port thing cousing this and if so on which box and how do i fix it??
You should check IPs, make sure you can ping the other one. If you can't need to figure out if a firewall or if the computers are connected together correctly.
how are you trying to transfer files, via an application or windows networking? If windows networking and no firewalls on, make sure you have IPX protocol installed on the network card. Depending on the windows verson, instruction a little different. Good Luck.
On Vista, they don't have IPX to add in but following: click Start, right-click Computer, and then click Properties. In the System window, the workgroup name is listed in the Computer name, domain, and workgroup settings section, which should match windows 2000 group found by right clicking on my computer and under computer name tab. IPX for 2000 found in the network card properties in control panel, you will see Internet Protocol (TCP/IP), which below is an ADD button, click on it and add protocol IPX. In Vista, to view the current network location type, do the following, click Start, right-click Network, and then click Properties. Where you can turn on File Sharing and review if you network in private or public, which for a small home network should set to private.
ok, on my vista on the network device map there is a broken line going from my comp name to my router. shouldnt it be solid?? i added a photo of what i amtalking about.
