Adding a new DC to existing remote DC over a VPN

We have 2 servers:
- Server 1 => located remotely
- Server 2 => local
We have made Server 1a DC
We want to make Server 2 a DC and add it to the domain over a VPN.
When we reach the stage where we need to enter the "Network Credentials" on the local AD setup, we get the following error:

"An error occurred when DNS was queried for the service location (SRV) resource record used to locate a domain controller for domain xxxxxxx.com.

The error was: "No records found for given DNS query."
(error code 0x0000251D DNS_INFO_NO_RECORDS)

The query was for the SRV record for _ldap._tcp.dc._msdcs.xxxxxxx.com"
(xxxxxxx being the domain name)

We can ping Server 1 from Server 2.
We did create the Lmhosts file on Server 2 to recognise the Server 1 NetBios Name with IP address
