dhcp does not work

hi experts, l'm having problem configuring the ms.dhcp server in NT4. l having win98 client connecting to NT4 primary domain. ms.dhcp server installed in NT4 pdc. what i did was installed the ms.dhcp server and set the scope in dhcp manager for example

start 192.168.42.10
end 192.168.42.50

i set the win98 client to auto ip assign and logon to NT4.it has successfull logon but i could not ping to the NT4 which got dhcp server installed. when i tried to execute command "winipcfg", there did not have any ip assigned. when i look into dhcp manager, it did assigned ip to my computer. why i'm still not able to ping that server ? and not getting any ip assgined. did i left something to configure for win98 or NT4.
