Application Error in Word (Office 2000 Pro)

I am running MS NT 4 to latest service pack on  a Dell Precision 330 256 Mbyte RAM I have twin screens using datapath twin vga card with twin control V 6.03

My problem is that everytime I try to open Word whether from the desktop, Start - Programs- Word or just double clicking a word document the application falls over with and exception error (exception Access Violation (0xc000005), Address 0x6504eaf1. I have run repair on the office suite to no avail I have de-installed Office suite entirlely and re-installed but still get the same error. I don't want to have to re-build my machine if it can be avoided any suggestions???

Further to above the remaining modules of the Office Suite Access Excel etc all function normally

1) Hae you applied the Service pack for Office 2K ?

Have you updated from windowsupdate.com ?

SysExpert Yes I have installed the Service Pack SR1 for 2k but to no avail but thank you

1) have you checked you default template *.dot files ?

I would delete all of them you find on your machine.

2) When did this start happening ?

Could it be a virus ?

Thanks SysExpert your comments helped I deleted the .dot files in the local directory and in all the additional directories used by the family. I eventually managed to get into word. Well deserved points

I had the same problem... hmmm corrupt .dot's.. I was wondering... do you have Symantec Winfax Pro 10 running as well?

Oh by the way. it was the WFWORD2K.DOT that was causing my problems. WinFax has the same .dot file. hmmm
