I have three locations that have WinXP networks using a Netgear ethernet switch. All
locations have worked fine until we added a Maxtor network drive.
When the drive was added, it seemed to work fine. At two of the locations, the network
stopped working the next day. At one location it took a week to break.
As soon as the network drive was disconnected (unmapped) AND the icon for the drive
deleted from each computer, the networking for that computer started working again.
At one location, each computer started working again as the network drive was remove
from it.
At another location ALL the references to the drive had to be removed from ALL the
computers for the network to work again. In this case, the error received was that the
workgroup is not accessible. I had missed one reference on one computer and could not
get the workgroup working so I created a new workgroup and added all the computers to
it. The new workgroup worked fine.
