print slowly

windows xp platform

I have an hp 4100dtn that recently started to print very slowly. No error codes. The only thing out of the ordinary is in the print window the status line doesn't say "ready." Instead, it says " error 2 documents waiting.

I have checked every printer in the printer and faxes window and none of them show documents pending. Internal print tests work well.

Help?
