Hello, I would like to create a batch file or something that I can run to turn on Internet Connection Sharing for a connection when run.

I have been looking for the command that will control ICS but have not been able to find anything yet.

The quotes are needed.

No, I am afraid that will not quite work. We are using a VerizonWireless USB adaptor for our internet connection. It shares its internet connection to the other computer on the network.

How ever on weekends we take the USB Adaptor to the house and use it there for internet. On Monday we bring it back to the office and plug it in. But it does not remember that ICS should be turned on and is "Off" for that connection. So I have to manually turn it on each time.
I also have to reset the ID of the Local Network Connection back to 192.168.1.1, which is no problem I have found d lots of batch files that do this. The software with the internet connection has on option to load a file when I connect. All I need to do is figureo8ut how to turn on ICS for that particular connection using a batch file and load it every time I connect.

I don't know of a command that will do what you want for ICS in itself.
netsh MIGHT be able to do it (I can't test it as my Windows Firewall /ICS is disabled)
if you open a command prompt and do the following command when ICS is enabled it might tell us.
netsh dump > c:\netshICS.txt

that will dump the configuration netsh see's to the file c:\netshICS.txt
Then try netsh dump > c:\netshNOICS.txt
when ICS is disabled when your at home.

From there it's looking at the differences asides from IP address/default gateway and seeing if theres anything that looks like it turns on bridging or ICS.

The two dump files were identical with ICS on as well as off. There HAS to be a way to do it some how. Perhaps with VB?

Off the top of my head I don't know of any vb script or cscript object to do with ICS.
Could you upload the netsh dumps to www.ee-stuff.com linking them to this question (20257954) on the off chance someone better than me in vbs wants to look at them.
I'll see if I can find a forum to put a pointer question back to this one that will have people with alot more vbs and windows scripting knowledge than myself.

I'd put a pointer questions in here
http://www.experts-exchange.com/Programming/Languages/Scripting/Shell/Batch/
and
http://www.experts-exchange.com/Programming/Languages/Visual_Basic/VB_Script/

Make them worth 20 points ONLY (All pointer questions have to be the minimium)
put "Pointer question for VB Script and Internet connection Sharing(ICS)" as your subject (The big thing making sure you point out it's a pointer in the subject)
then put in something like
"I would like to create a batch file or something that I can run to turn on Internet Connection Sharing for a connection when run. please look at http://www.experts-exchange.com/Networking/Windows_Networking/NT/Q_22952438.html"
or the such.

That should get people more knowledgable than I in VB and windows scripting looking at this.
Right know from what I know I'd say it can't be done, but someone else more knowledgable than I might be able to offer a solution with those pointer questions.

Thanks Terry, I have uploaded the netesh dump files here:
ICS Off - http://www.jacobbushnell.com/Junk/ICSoff.txt
ICS On - http://www.jacobbushnell.com/Junk/ICSon.txt

I will post some pointer question as you suggested.

HELP! :)

by: JakeBushnellPosted on 2007-12-18 at 10:20:17ID: 20494161

Hello Friends, thank to John Fenske I finally have a solution!

Here is a VB script that will change the connection. I had to pass the parameters of the connections names into the script.

See code snippit....

I saved the script to my C: as network.vbs and then made a batch file to call this script:

cscript network.vbs "NAME_OF_LAN" "NAME_OF_WAN

And it worked like a charm!
Thanks again to John Fenske!
