The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Workgroup name displayed is incorrrect when using 'Computers Near Me" in Windows XP Home SP2

Hi All,

500 points for this one.

We have a Client who we configured a desktop using Windows XP Home.  This computer was preset to connect to thier network before we shipped it to them.  We do this very regularly, however this specific computer is displaying an error that we've never had before and it's baffling us.

The computer is conencted to the Workgroup and the specifically mapped drive to the non-dedicated server needed for a software app is working fine.  The strange thing is when the Client tries 'Computers Near me", Windows browses for a minute, then displays the message that the List of Servers is not accessible on the workgroup CASSEY.  The Workgroup is not named CASSEY.  It's completely different! It's set to the correct workgroup name in Computer properties, Computer name.

We have called the Client and talked them through changing the workgroup name to something different, rebooting, and then changing back again to the correct workgroup name, the message still appears and won't display the workgroup computers.

There's no domain, it's a straight TCP/IP workgroup - nothing fancy at all.  All comptuers on the network are running WIN 2K pro or XP Pro and are communicating well, except for this computer displaying this message when 'Computers Near me" is used.  All IP addresses are obtained via DHCP from the Broadband modem. LMHOSTS is not used and the firewall hes been disabled on that computer.

We are stumped.

Any help is appreciated.
