DHCP best practice : on the server or on the router ?

Hi,

I am wondering about something.
Currently, in our branches offices, we have a Windows Server 2003 domain controller server who acts as a DNS server of course, but also a DHCP server.

In the last weeks, the server of one of these branch offices failed, which means that they were left without DHCP server and couldn't even browse the internet or check e-mails anymore if they restarted their machine.

So, I am wondering if I wouldn't be better off moving the task of DHCP to the router (SOHO) rather than leave it on the servers to prevent such problems.
That said, is there any implications in doing that ? Does it help if the DC also acts as the DHCP server ? Does it make the DNS database more consistent since the DHCP service on the same machine etc or is it unrelated ?
