there is also a hosts file and an lmhosts file on the local machine that will be used to resolve names before using dns
try adding entries to them
Note: not the hosts.sam and lmhosts.sam (these are sample files and will not work)

Sounds like a DNS issue.
You might have your external DNS as your primary DNS on your machines TCP/IP properties.
W/o any network info from ou this a best guess at this time.
If you have an internal DNS and an external DNS, make the internal your primary sand the external the secondary.
