The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. operation failed : renew IP address??

well I'm running windows XP Profesional, and I have a small home network with 3 computers connected to a Netgear DG814 DSL Modem/Router with 4port switch. Well here is my question, out of the blue one of the computers wouldn't connect to the network or the internet, i tried going to the network connections and repairing the connection, and it sayed "The following steps of the repair operation failed: Renewing the IP address Please contact your network administrator or ISP". I thought maybe the router wdidn't have DHCP enabled, but it did. Second thing I did was manually input the Default Gateway, Subnet Mask and IP address and DNS server's and I was able to access the network but not the internet. when I did IPCONFIG /ALL under Node Type it sayed unkown that seemed strange because before it was under mixed or something like that. I thought it could also be the hardware, so i put in another NIC and still the same issue arrised, if it is set to automatically obtain a ne IP address and it's not doing it what could be causing this, One last thing is when I log into the router I can see the computer connected, It's driving me nuts I don't know how to fix it.
