SMTP timeouts

Hi Everyone,

I have been struggling with this issue for a few days and can't seem to come up with an explanation.

Exchange 2000 server
-SMTP virtual server allowing internet mail delivery
-anonymous access
-no relaying
-smart host for remote delivery

Outboung mail works fine.
I can telnet to the server and send mail to the hosted mail domain fine.

The problem is when another SMTP server attempts to connect. (ie. I send mail through a client)
The Exchange server just times out after the specified period with no explanation as to why the transfer had failed.

Logging is on for the SMTP virtual server, but advanced logging is not (as i'm not sure what features to turn on).
I have since run smtpreinstall.exe to no effect (all it seemed to have done was recreate the default SMTP virtual server and enabled it).

This whole problem seems to have started gradually. At first, it was a few, and now pretty much all SMTP servers are unable to send mail to the domain.

Any assistance greatly appreciated.
