It mentions dsl, but have seen it apply in your situation

Browse All TopicsHi, I have a simple problem that I hope someone can help me with.
For some reason when I set up my internet (a sattalite service) to share over my P2P network, IE cannot browse. It just sits there "sending request" to what ever page I try and does nothing.
I CAN browse with AOL however and can get my mail on my POP account using MS Outlook.
It seems it should just be a small setting somewhere but I lack the experience to know just where!
Does any one have an idea?
I am using XP on all my systems.
Thanks, Jake

Hi, That was a very good link and it described my symptoms exatly but... It dident work. :(
When I ping the gatway ip with various sizes it gives me "The Packet must be Fragmented..etc"
That's fine, just like the link sayed. But when I get below a certian number ie: 1439 the error message changes to say the the response timed out... So I used that number to set the MTU value.
Any way, after all that it still diden't make a diffrence.
Any other ideas?
Thanks

I read on the MS support site that the Service Pack one was supposed to fix this problem so I am going to try to download it.
Thanks, Jake
And here is the Ip ping test on the client machine.
I pinged the default gateway while I was at it and for some reason it gave the "Request timed out error" at both the shareing and the client machines.

No, I relize that, I use DRECWAY Sattalite service as my ISP and I want to be able to access the web from my other computers over the net work.
I have had it set up for great for the last year but just recently the computer I used to use for the "host" gave up (prosesor went out). I have installed this compaq in it's place as a temparay fix so we can keep woking Monday. I am planning on getting a nicer system next week but we got to keep working! our busnisness needs the internet prety bad.
I am going to raise the points up as I think this is starting to get a little hairy!
Any more ideas? I am going to contact microsoft to find out why I can't download the service pack.
Thanks, Jaocb
Did you setup ICS on the host machine?
go thur these steps to make sure
for step by step
see here
http://www.annoyances.org/
www.practicallynetworked.c
the reason I ask is this line
from the host ipconfig
IP Routing Enabled. . . . . . . . : No
I GOT IT!!!
But first to awnser you questions...
#1 yes I have set up ICS on my host. #2 Yes, I want to be able to browse on my clients
I got the Service Pack down loaded AND changed the MTU size to a very small # (1000) and it is seems to be working now.
I thoght the Service Pack would fix it alone but it did not. It seems strange that I had to do both but all I know is it works now!!
Thanks a lot for you help!!!
