I do not want this machine to dish out IP information because I already have a DHCP server in place. This machine will only be used as a file server.
Main Topics
Browse All TopicsI have a newly built Windows 2003 member server. I noticed Event ID 7023 in the System Log:
"The DHCP Client service terminated with the following error:
Access is denied.
For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fw
Of course, the Microsoft knowlege base did not help much.
When I try to start the DHCP client service I get this error:
"Could not start the DHCP Client Service on Local Computer: "Error 5: Access Denied"."
Even though this server is setup with static IP addressing, I would still like to get rid of these errors. It bugs me when a newly built server has event errors.
Please help!
Thanks much!

Yes... it is a server WITH static IP addressing in place. Please... I encourage you to read the original post because this information was mentioned there.
And yes, I have the administrator access to the server. Even if I log in with the actual domain administrator account, I still get the same symptoms. Thanks anyway.
It is already stopped. Currently it is set to automatic. I can set it to disabled. When I do, if I reboot the server I still get the following error in event viewer:
The DHCP Client service terminated with the following error:
Event ID: 7023
Access is denied.
For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fw
Seen this kind of error before on servers having two NICS connected to the same switch.
Did not matter how they were configured, they caused problems (fail over, load balanced, teamed)
For troubleshooting purposes, if you have two NICS in the machine, disable one of then and reboot.
If the service works, at least you have a path to follow for a resolution.
I also came accross the following excerpts from http://www.talkroot.com/ar
My problem was solved by granting the network services account full control to the
hkey_local_machine\system\
hkey_local_machine\system\
......
Had to create an OU for memeber servers and create a GP for it. I put DHCP
and TCPIP registry keys in the GPe with network service having full control
over them. It was a pain in the but hunting it down.
Hope this helps.
The registry hacks worked!! I did not have to bother with the group policy stuff.
It seems kinda strange that I had to hack the registry just to get rid of the problem.
If someone can explain to me the reason for the problem, just email me personally and I will open a new case and give you credit.
In the meantime... many thanks to kreaganoutsourceditbiz.

did you authorize the dhcp server?
open dhcp manager----select dhcp---right click then select authorize---add the server's ip address....
