The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Confusion - Switching to T1 not sure where to change IP in small biz network

Asked by whoslacks in Windows Networking

Tags: connect

I inherirted this network after replacing an IT guy that was high on ideas but not much for follow through.  I have some networking background as I understand what DCHP, NAT, and WINS are, however I've never really configured them before.

So here is some details followed by a question.  I'm willing to admit I'm full on noob about this and I'm sure I'll leave something out.  I'll get right back with any information I can.

We have a few servers on our network, one is the PDC, another is running DHCP.  Our gateway computer has two NIC cards and is used for routing and remote access.  Our outside IP address is 63.xxx.xxx.xxx and it is going to change to 74.xxx.xxx.xxx (we are upgrading to a T1 from DSL)  The tech has installed the T1 circuit and says I just have to plug in an RJ45 and I'm good to go.  The box he installed says Adtran Total Access.  I tried plugging a laptop directly into it but was unable to get a connection, I'm not sure if I have to use a crossover or what.

So i'd like to do as much of the leg work as possible on this for the expericance.  All the servers are windows 2000.  I need to know where I change  the IP settings, if I need to use the DNS numbers he gave me, etc.  Currently the DSL goes into a Cisco 1720.  Then from the 1720 to the gateway PC's outside NIC, the inside NIC goes to the switch/hub.

I'm sure that this a rather simple issue and I'd like to tackle through research but managment is not affording me that luxury.  I apperciate any help you can give.
