The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Network Intermediate drops connection to Internet and Server

Ok this is long so bare with me. I am gonna try to explain the best I can what has been happening and some of the things I have tried to do to fix it (and it is a lot).

The network was replaced about a year ago since then no problems until about a month ago. Around that time users started losing connectivity to the network sporadically they would work fine for a couple of hours and then bam would drop connection. You can not ping the server or the gateway for the internet, you can ping another client on the network once and then you would be able to ping the server again or if you wait for 10 min to a hour the connection would re-establish itself. At first it happen to 2 machines then to 5 then to the whole network. There is one computer on the network that has never had any of these problem to this day it gets on works all day has never dropped the network connection. BTW there was a virus on the network moo.moo but I found and cleaned it.

Ok now for stuff I have tried

Scanned for virus’s with Nortons and Stinger tool from Mcaffe Found one and cleaned.

Ran Ad-ware and Hijack this. Found A LOT of spyware and removed it all.

Check the Reg. Found spyware in there removed it all.

Had a w32 Time error fixed that and setup clients to use local server as trusted time server, set server to use a trusted time server in Houston no errors since I have done this.

Removed and join machine from domain

Renamed old profiles and made new profiles for users

The only thing that seems to be working is I have changed out the network card on machines and that seems to have help with the 2 machines I have done. I think that might be the problem but 11 network cards going bad at the same time seems to be a stretch.

Change out the switch for a weeks same problem occurred with new switch.

Checked all the Cat-5 cable lines all ok.

Specs. On the network
2000 Server with SP3
XP clients with newest SP
Protocals on network TCP/IP 192.168.1.X subnet

Cisco 506e Firewall

DSL connection to the Internet

If you need any more info just ask and will answer for you.

Thanks
Bill
