I have a relatively small network with a domain (10 workstations). The server is windows 2000 server and the workstations are all windows XP/2000. The workstations are all set to dhcp. The workstations all run an accounts program off the server.
I have a mysterious problem in that sometimes the workstations lose their internet connection. They continue to have access to the server but unless I use "repair" they cannot access the internet. When I do use repair then they can access the internet sometimes for the day, sometimes for 5 minutes. I am at a loss as to what the problem could be. The server continues to have full internet access.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The lease time is for a day. Yes, it is the same workstations, however these are the workstations that are used the most so perhaps it is just noticed most. Like I said the network remains "up" and I still have access to the server from these workststions but I cannot access internet. The funny thing is that sometimes I can still access mail and msn messenger. When I click repair the problem is solved - sometimes for a while sometimes for 5 minutes
1/. Also the repair does a release and renew of an IP address -------- Does it fix it when you release and renew an IP address as well as a repair?
2/. I believe a repair also does an enable and disable of the LAN Connection ---- if you disable and enable the device does that also fix it.
If its the first I would say its an wierd IP problem. If its the second it could be a collision issue....ie...new hub/switch.

Why do you have a one day lease time. The only reason to have a short lease time is because you don't have enough addresses and you need to ensure the addresses are returned to the pool promptly when they are not being used. If you are using adresses from the non routable range you should not need to do this for a 10 pc network. I would set a long lease time in this case so as to reduce network traffic generated by renewal requests and to ensure that the client PC always has the same IP.
I don't know if this will solve your problem but it is worth a try.

Always the same workstations? Just a few? Or Random?
Have you checked to see if you are handing out enough DHCP licenses and also what is your DHCP lease time?
