The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Networking an Windows XP and Win98 together for file and print sharing

Asked by dbrooks359 in Windows Networking

I have a small home network consisting of two computers, a broadband cable modem and a Lynksys Router. One machine is running Windows XP Service Pack 2 Home Edition and the other is running Windows 98 First Edition. Both machines are working great and can share the internet without any problems. However, I cannot get the Win98 machine to be able to access files on my Windows XP machine but I can use the XP to access the Win98. I also cannot get the Win98 machine to recognize the HP DeskJet 950C that I have directly connected to the XP machine. I would like to be able to print to it from both machines, not just the XP. I would also like the Win98 machine to be able to access files on the XP machine. I have searched the internet high and low and tried so many different things that people have suggested but there just isn't much out there for this scenario. I've made sure that file and print sharing is enabled on both machines and I've made sure that I named the computers and the network and that I input those names correctly. Why can the XP machine access the 98 but not the other way around? And why can't I print from the 98 machine? Please help! I'm at my wits end!
