A friend of mine told me this, and I thought this was very interesting but quite annoying at the same time. Apparently his company (or the network security guy) refuses to use dhcp for their network and will only assign static ip to all users (200+). I thought this to be rediculous especially on the business side where time is very valuable. Though he (the network security) will accept all responsibility in making changes to all individual workstations if and only if network will change. I understand that he was trying to be very "secure" to the network, but what difference does it make if you use dhcp? My suggestion was to (obviously) get a dhcp server up and running so that way you:
1) don't waste your time administering all workstations when changes to the network occurs AND the security guy can do better things to improve the network other than running around and reconfiguring all workstations
2) can also have the ability to RESERVE ip addresses when you need to
I'm not saying that this is right or wrong. I just think it's a waste of time, and I don't think there is much of a difference in a security standpoint. What do you guys think? Let me know if you need anymore info.
