The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. Recommend Network Setup

Original Setup
Server1
2000 Server
Domain Controller
Removable Hotswapable Data drives

Server2
2000 Server
BDC?  Supposedly
Drive bays for hotswap drives

Server3
2000 Server
Exchange Server 2000
IIS - Hosting website/ftp


This is a small architectural firm with 5 workstations.

I was brought in after the DC crashed and moveing the datadrives to the Server2 did not work.  Login and email etc was all messed up.  
I removed Server1 completely from the domain.  Made server2 the DC and forced control over all DC operations.  Server2 and Server3 are networked fine with no errors and email and website and logins are all correct.  Remote access to exchange is working.

So now he wants to add Server1 back into the mix as a true BDC.  

Do you think this is the best approach?

What happens theoretically is that server2 (DC) crashes.  He moves the data drives to server1 and everything is working as it should.

Is that the best setup.
Or is it the best use for a third server?  Maybe set it up as a fileserver.  and setup server3(exchange/IIS) as a backup for DNS and DHCP in case the DC goes down.

any input would be nice.
