Connecting to Wireless Network

Let me refresh this question, I want to stop other people from logging on to my wireless network. I figured the 2 ways of doing this were wireless security and MAC address filtering. But for some reason my laptop will only connect when neither is turned on. What can i do?

When I have a wireless network setup with WPA security. It sees the wireless network and asks for the WPA password then it says 'Aquiring Network Address' for a few seconds and then 'Disconnected' and then back to 'Aquiring Network Address' it just keeps doing this round and round. How can i get it to connect.

My Mac laptop which is right next to it connects fine everytime!
