asked on
Network Monitoring tool ?
Hi,
I am looking for a good network monitoring tool to use on just a normal TCP/IP network, i.e. how much bandwidth was being used, by which computers and if possible the type of network traffic etc... Also is it possible with network monitoring tools to ask it to monitor a specific IP address on the network, for example the router/gateway device to monitor its utilisation alone ?
Thanks

This is good but what I would ideally like to do is monitor the network traffic which is going through our gateway router (Netgear DG834G). The router has near to no useful statistics and what I would like to be able to monitor is that the current network utilisation is (through the gateway to the internet) but I don’t think that this is possible to do it from a client PC on the network.
Is there anyway I can do this ? If a proxy server was set up, could I just install a network monitoring tool on that computer and that would do what I was looking for ?
Thanks
