Hi XM_Solutions

Have you re-applied all the current patches/service packs?
Have you rerun the "Connect to the internet" wizard in Server management?
Have you rechecked all the user permissions, they may have been scrambled during the reinstall?

with SBS of any flavor

Rule number one - do not try to beat the wizard.
Rule number two - always rerun the relevant wizrd after performing any major systme mode.

Hope this helps

Barry

Yes I did re-apply all service packs, as well as the Internet and e-mail wizard. All the wizard pages check out. however the error still remains. All the relevant users that need access to this utility has got the correct permissions. There is a password policy that was implemented before this issue occured, could that be an issue?

Let's try and identify if it's isolated to existing users or all users.

Create a New Standard user via Server Management Console - "Add a User".

Does the new User Receive the 403 - Forbidden error?

If Yes, you have a serious error in your config of the Companyweb in IIS, that we need to resolve
If No, it's a permissions issue for the existing users, reconfirming the user permissions through the "Change User Permissions" in Server Management often resolves such issues.

Let us know

Okay, here's what I did, I created a new user using the Server Management Console. It still gave me the 403 error when I tried to access the remote web workplace using the new account I just created. I've also noticed that my SQLAgent$SHAREPOINT service refuses to start.

by: BarryCoePosted on 2006-01-03 at 02:02:35ID: 15597471

Well at least we've got to what looks like to source of the issue.

Confirm that the SQL Service is starting with the correct admin credentials, reapply MSDE SP4, if that fails my next step would be to uninstall Companyweb and reinstall. thus replacing all the components that could be at fault.

by: XM_SolutionsPosted on 2006-01-03 at 03:01:13ID: 15597688

I,ve checked the logon credentials of the service, they're set to use the LOCALSYSTEM account like all the other services. I'm not really that clued up on SQL server, how do I re-apply the MSDE SP4 and do I need to download from Microsoft or not?

by: BarryCoePosted on 2006-01-03 at 03:13:46ID: 15597750

Insert Disk 4 of your SBS Setup Disk - Explore you will find a folder MSDE_SP4 open the folder and run setup.exe.

Also check the event logs to see if anything shows as to why the SQLAgent$SHAREPOINT fails

When you say you've reapplied all Service Packs, does that include SBS2003 SP1 http://www.microsoft.com/windowsserver2003/sbs/default.mspx

by: XM_SolutionsPosted on 2006-01-03 at 22:31:04ID: 15605659

No I did not apply SBS SP1, because that was never installed before I reinstalled IIS and exchange. However there are two distinct errors, that I'm getting, firstly I get a CI service error, telling me that scans of the contents of the Inetpub folder can't be scanned with event id 4118. The second error I receive is that the SQL Agent for Sharepoint is not allowed to run with event id 324.

by: BarryCoePosted on 2006-01-04 at 01:34:12ID: 15606240

Those two event ID's tend to send shivers down my spine, about 6 months ago I had the self same error's, after banging my head against it for 2 weeks, I gave up and called MS Support, their answer within 5 mins was backup your data and rebuild, it'll be quicker.

I didn't, I knew SP1 was about to breakout and also new it had some considerable updates rolled into it, not least of all ISA2004, it actually turned out to be a complete reinstall over the top, not an update.

I pinned my last ditch hopes that SP1 would solve the problem for me, or I would need to rebuild, and it did, 2 hours of applying SP1 and all was well again.  Try it!

I was also having this problem.  Interestingly, if I manually typed in http://server.domain.com/remote/default.aspx, the site would work. however
http://server.domain.com/remote would not work.
I was able to compare two SBS systems, I noticed that one of the default pages was missing.

Here's how I fixed it.
Open IIS, right click properties of the remote site.  Click on documents tab.  Add default.aspx.

Cheers!
