The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. Buffalo Secure Gateway VPN Connection Dropping

I have a WZR-RS-G54 wireless secure gateways (w/ built in VPN server).

I have about 15 of these at different customer locations, w/different broadband connections, etc.  And only 4 of them have this problem (all routers bought at different times).  

The problem is:

After authenticating to the VPN it drops the connection within about 5min or less.  Also, this drop is BEFORE attaching to any machine within the VPN network (ie: remote takeover, mapping drives).....just a simple VPN connect using the Microsoft Windows XP VPN client.  On my router I have IPSec pass thru enabled and as a matter a fact, I have the same buffalo router as the clients.

The only common denominator, with the VPNs that are failing, is that they all have public static IP addresses from the ISP.  I know it doesnt make sense but thats the only thing I can find in common that the VPNs are dropping have.

and of course Buffalo tech support is very hard to get an answer from and they RARELY get back to you when they say they will.   I've tried upgrading firmware, reconfiguring the VPN client to not use the remote gateway, etc.....my clients need this and I really dont want to have to switch these routers out because of obviously how long it would take to reconfigure them all.

Any help would be more than I got from Buffalo!
