windows remote access

I need to occasionally access remote computers to repair problems.
I liked LOGMEIN rescue it works great and easy for the person on the other side.
Remote desktop is not an option because requries set up on other computer.
Remote assistance is not always ideal either because the remote computer has to be set up for that.
The logmein rescue worked great because the user went to the logmein website, typed in and ID# and would just allow me in to their system.
The downfall for this product is the $100+ dollars a month for someting I do not need often.
Is their anything similar available or another solution that would help me accomplish the samething?

My objectives would be:
1. To access remote computers via the internet.
2. Make it easy for the remote user to let me in with little or no configuration.
3. I made need to upload or download files.
4. Cheaper, Not neccessarily free.
5. Easy for remote user ( I know I wrote it twice).

Can I run a program on my server or maybe my web hosting site that would allow me to connect to others.
