The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Workgroup-XPPro-Vista-Mac

Just got a client with a horrible network...
DSL, wireless router, no security...wireless print server, no security...
1 - Mac running 10.4.10
2 -  XP home
3 -  Vista home
1 - XP Pro
2 -  usb printers
No server...
No workgroup...basically they all work independtly and share a USB stick...a modern day "sneaker net"...:)...although they tell me that one XP Home and the XP Pro do share files...
Some of the Vista boxes are home basic, and home premium...

Going to recommend a workgroup server with XP Pro...
Get rid of the wireless, run drops, but might have to use wireless for back office, will get tight security on that...

Question...
Only worked with Vista a little, not very knowledgable with it, but learning...
I want to set up a workgroup server with XP Pro, run the 2 USB printers off this server...
Set up a share on the server for everyone to store files, then will run an ext USB drive for daily
backups and burn a DVD for monthly backups...

1.  What issues will I run into getting Vista Home and Pro and the XP Home and Mac all working on the
workgroup server???
2.  Will I be able to map the printers to all these various boxes???
3.  Will the 2 versions of Vista, Home and Pro, both be able to access a shared drive on the workgroup
server and map to the printers???

I have a very limited budget, will not put in a domain server...but will like to be able to expand it to a domain server when they hit 10-12 employees...in another year or so...

Thoughts and ideas???
Thanx
Steve
