Accessing network drive is slow

Asked by CGrouse in Windows Networking, File Servers, Network Management

Hey Guys, I'll start off with the system I'm having an issue with..
Its a Dell Optiplex
Windows XP SP2
P4 3.00 Ghz
1 GB of RAM
Broadcom NetXtreme 57xx Gigabit Controller

My issue with this computer is that when accessing network drives it is extremly slow.  It is namely when going to view pictures or even in outlook when trying to open an email with an attatchment.  I've experienced this issue a few times at other clients and I would get gigabit cards for those that needed them and it would fix the issue.  I'm sure this isn't the only fix for this issue though and was wondering if anyone could help with another solution? There are several computers on this network connected at 100mbs and they work just fine.  I've checked DNS settings and they are all correct, I just dont know of anything else to check.  Internet and everything else is fine on it just when I try to access any file on a network drive that has much of any size it is horribly slow.Start Free Trial
