OK, I am giving in here. I have been trying to resolve this issue for a few days and am running out of hair to pull out.
Up until recently I have always used my work laptop 5 days a week then toddled off home at the weekend and played the odd game of Counter-Strike, Unreal Tournament or other IP connection based game with my son on the home PC....no problemo.
I have just bought a new laptop for work, shiny new Dell with business vista, lots of RAM and a super fast video card....yippeee!! Except not.......the network is a nightmare now.
In short, the vista PC cannot be seen by any other part of the network at home.....however, it can ping any hosts and the gateway of my Belkin router. The hosts however cannot ping the Vista PC.....nothing can. Also any games that we host on either PC cannot be seen, however if I hang my old XP laptop off the network all is well again and it can ping, be pinged and see any hosted game sessions. The Vista PC came with McAfee Security Center pre-installed and the Vista firewall says its switched off if I look in the control panel or under administrative tools (i also tried with it on for the record and any programs I tried allowed in and out) .
I am assuming that most PC games when setup as a server send out broadcast packets that get picked up by the game browser on the opposing PC? Could this be the root of the evil?
I would also like to point out I am currently using hard coded IP's in order to make the troubleshooting easier.
Network on Vista PC is as follows.

Thats with it on wireless, its the same on an RJ45 connection with a different IP of course!
I realise that this is not a business issue per say which I usually use this forum for but I would imagine this problem could traspose into the business environment if its an IP based issue.
I have looked at some other posts on here that look similar but no solutions have worked or are appropriate.
Any help on this one would be great, Thanks.
